Hongze District is located in the central area of Jiangsu Province, at the east of Hongze Lake. It was designated as a county in 1956, and removed Hongze County to establish as Hongze District in 2016 by the State Council. With two lakes around it,   Hongze District has always enjoyed the reputation of "a pearl on Huaihe River" and "a land of fish and rice", which is a charming lakeside tourist city. It administers 6 towns, 3 streets and covers an area of 1,394 km², of which water area accounts for 55%, with a population of 388,000.
