Aging, poorly maintained and frequently malfunctioning elevators are a common travel problem for residents of old residential communities. So far this year, Xuyi County has steadily advanced the renovation of elevators in old residential communities. Through policy promotion, safety outreach, phased construction, and full-process supervision, the county has effectively eliminated elevator safety hazards while continuously improving residents' quality of life and travel convenience.
To ensure that the public clearly understands the renovation policies and procedures, the Xuyi County Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau has set up inquiry desks in densely populated areas such as urban squares to address residents' questions on the spot. Staff explained the eligibility requirements, application procedures, and public-benefit policies for elevator renovation in plain language. They handled nearly 1,000 public inquiries and distributed over 2,000 promotional materials, effectively raising public awareness and support.
Outreach and guidance efforts have achieved comprehensive online and offline coverage. Communities across the urban area have promoted safe elevator riding tips by hanging banners and displaying information on electronic screens. Through owners' WeChat groups in 158 residential communities across the county, Xuyi continually shares educational posts and short videos, integrating safe and civilized elevator habits into daily life and fostering widespread attention to elevator safety.
Xuyi County's initiative to renovate elevators in old residential communities is being carried out in two batches. In the first batch, the renovation of 11 old elevators in the Huaxia International and Fengyue Tianqing communities has been largely completed, while the tendering process for the second batch of 13 elevators in the Siji Huating and Longcheng Xintiandi communities has been completed.
The Xuyi County Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau has closely followed the entire construction process, kept a close watch on construction safety and project quality, and held property management companies accountable for their primary responsibilities and asked them to proactively handle routine elevator operation, maintenance, and hazard inspections, shifting the approach from passive rectification to proactive prevention and control, creating a solid safeguard for safe elevator operation in residential communities. Currently, equipment for the second batch of renovation projects is being scheduled for production in an orderly manner. On-site installation is scheduled to begin in early November, and the annual target of upgrading and renovating 24 elevators in old residential communities will be fully completed by the end of November.
Upgrading and renovating elevators in old residential communities is an essential livelihood part of urban renewal. As these projects are successively completed and put into service, infrastructure shortcomings in multiple old residential communities across the jurisdiction have been addressed. Residents can now travel with greater safety and comfort, continuously enhancing the public's sense of gain, happiness, and security. Moving forward, Xuyi County will continue to solidly advance the renovation of public supporting facilities, conduct regular elevator safety supervision, and enhance and upgrade the urban human living environment through refined governance.
