Huai'an's Economic Performance Remained Stable From January to August

Since this year, despite the impact of multiple factors, Huai'an's economy has maintained overall stability with steady progress.

The industrial economy maintained a steady trend. From January to August, the city's added value of industry above the designated size grew by 6.7% year-on-year, 0.2 percentage points higher than that of January–July. From the perspective of key industries, the cumulative added value of computer communications and other electronic equipment manufacturing, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing, and wine, beverage and refined tea manufacturing increased by 26.5%, 6.4%, 6.0% and 5.0%, respectively. Together, they drove Huai'an's industrial added value growth by 3.6 percentage points.

Industrial investment maintained steady growth. From January to August, the city's fixed-asset investment decreased by 2.6% year-on-year. Among them, investment in industrial technological transformation increased by 11.0% year-on-year. In comparison, investment in the services sector dropped by 17.9% year-on-year. Industrial investment grew by 2.7% year-on-year.

The consumer market showed positive momentum despite pressure. From January to August, Huai'an's total retail sales of consumer goods reached RMB 135.35 billion, up 4.6% year-on-year. Of this total, retail sales of consumer goods by enterprises above the designated size reached RMB 42.62 billion, up 9.4% year-on-year. The retail sales of commodities in major categories—the beverage category, the grain, oil, and food category, and the book, newspaper, and magazine category—increased by 38.1%, 39.2%, and 36.8%, respectively, continuing to maintain a positive recovery trend. In August, affected by price fluctuations in the international market and hot, rainy weather, Huai'an's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.4% month-on-month and 0.1% year-on-year. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, rose by 0.4% year-on-year, maintaining a moderate upward trend.
