This year, in accordance with provincial and municipal arrangements for practical livelihood projects, Huai'an City issued the Implementation Plan for the Project on Helping the Elderly Overcome Smartphone Difficulties, setting a goal to help 30,000 seniors learn to use smartphones in a year.

Rather than adopting a "one-size-fits-all" approach, the training is tailored to seniors' actual needs. The curriculum is divided into four major categories: basic operations, daily services, safety precautions, and skill advancement. Covering practical skills from powering on, unlocking, and enlarging fonts to online doctor appointments, ride-hailing, spotting fraud traps, and using AI software, the lessons are designed for immediate practical use. Huai'an has used community activity centers, universities for the elderly, and senior care facilities to pool the efforts of instructors from universities for the elderly, community workers, corporate personnel, and volunteers, while also encouraging peer-to-peer assistance among seniors. The training combines online and offline learning, as well as large-class lectures with one-on-one coaching. It follows the principle of "slow explanations, repetition, and frequent practice" to ensure the elderly can truly grasp and apply what they learn. To date, this project has accumulated 32,000 participants across Huai'an.

Moving forward, Huai'an will continue to optimize training formats and integrate "smart assistance for the elderly" into routine eldercare services, ensuring more seniors are not left behind in the digital era but enjoy a greater sense of fulfillment.
