Recently, the project approval results of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for 2026 were announced. Huai'an City was awarded a total of 35 projects, including 6 General Projects and 29 Young Scientists Fund Projects, with total funding of RMB 11.68 million, hitting a five-year high.

Among these approved projects, universities secured 26, accounting for 74%, while hospitals secured 9, accounting for 26%. With Young Scientists Fund Projects accounting for over 80%, this reflects that Huai'an has cultivated a cohort of young scientific research specialists who are gradually becoming the backbone of basic research.

In recent years, Huai'an City has closely adhered to the "Four Orientations" (scientific and technological development must target the global science frontiers, serve the main economic battlefield, strive to fulfill the significant needs of the country, and benefit people's lives and health). It has actively implemented the deployment requirements of Jiangsu Province's action plan on strengthening basic research, reinforced the building of scientific research talent teams, optimized policy support, improved diversified investment mechanisms, and continuously fostered a favorable innovation ecosystem, thereby providing solid source support in basic research for the high-quality development of sci-tech innovation across the city.
