As a renowned mountain of Taoism, Laozi Mountain is located on the south shore of Hongze Lake; it is particularly famous for its beautiful sceneries. Laozi Mountain once had plenty of scenic spots, including Alchemy Platform of Laozi, Buffalo Footmark (printed by a buffalo ridden by Laozi), Phoenix Pier, Fishing Platform, Fahua Temple, Youlong College, but most of which were ruined by flames of wars with the exception of Celestial Beings Cave and Phoenix Pier. Inside Laozi Mountain Town, there are dozens of beaches and over 300,000 mou water face with abundant natural resources. Laozi Mountain Town teems with many kinds of fishes, crayfishes, crabs, turtles, mussels, water chestnut, lotus root, lotus seed and bulrush.
Due to its important location for waterway transportation, Laozi Mountain was a place with prosperous commerce, rich culture and gathered merchants from all places during Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties. However, years of wars made water transportation decline, especially after Qing Dynasty, as a result, Laozi Mountain became feeble gradually, but there are still a great amount of historic sites left everywhere in Laozi Mountain. Tombs, tomb bricks of Han Dynasty, Eastern Jin and the Six Dynasties were found here in succession, besides, lotus flap eaves tiles, deep relief tigers, lion head stria eaves tiles of Northern Song Dynasty also exist here. They remind people of historical changes and become precious materials for Huai Water Culture research.
