The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Huaihai South Road Bridge construction project just added an important construction joint on Nov. 7. The first joint of the steel tower was successfully hoisted into place, shifting the project from an "underground" to "aboveground" construction phase.
The entire steel tower has a structure similar to building blocks, with a total of 25 joints hoisted up from the foundation. During this time, the first joint of the steel tower weighs 172 tons and stands about 4.7 meters high, with dimensions of about 12.8 meters by 13.3 meters on the bottom.
The main project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
