There are 333,500 disabled people in Huai’an, Jiangsu province, approximately 6.26% of the total population of the city. In recent years, Huai’an has made significant progress in the protection and care of those with disabilities by improving organizational structure and working mechanism, and strengthening utility construction.
The city vigorously develops rehabilitative medical establishments, conducts training on rehabilitation skills, and has medical recovery expenses covered by medical insurance, so as to ease the burden on the families of those with disabilities. It has achieved favorable social results after 11 months of rehabilitation training-based aid is freely offered for children with disabilities up to age 14.
Moreover, the city promotes employment and entrepreneurship among those with disabilities in such a manner as to safeguard their subsistence and development and improve their living conditions. Classified training is conducted with the disabled, depending on their respective physical condition and intellectual level. In the city, a total of 10,132 people with disabilities were trained and 11,986 employed.
