International Food Expo Opens in Huai'an

China (Huai'an) International Food Expo opened in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province on April 19, attracting 280 domestic and foreign companies and over 5,000 buyers from 18 countries and regions.
Huai'an has long enjoyed a good reputation, known as the "Capital of Grand Canal," city of gastronomy, and "granary under the heaven" from 500 years ago. In recent years, the output value of food industry rose to 100 billion yuan (15 billion US dollars), and some key companies have also made rapid growths. Specialties like Xuyi Crayfish, Hongze Lake Crabs and Huai'an Rice became well-known brands across the country, while the city is also a key commodity grain base.
The food expo aims to provide a platform for cooperation and exchanges among food companies, promote the interactions, reinforce complementary advantages, and improve the competitive edge and brand influences of food companies in Huai'an.
The food expo has attracted 280 enterprises, among which 40 percent were from other countries. The opening ceremony also witnessed the contract signing of 31 food industry projects with a total investment of 16 billion yuan (2.5 billion US dollars).
