UNESCO Official Makes Food Visit to Huai'an
Dag Hartman, coordinator for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network Gastronomy Group, paid a visit to Huai'an City of Jiangsu Province on April 4 and 5.
In the visit, he went to several institutes and locations of local cuisines including Jiangsu Food and Pharmaceutical Science College, Huaiyang Cuisine Museum and the ancient town of Hexia. He watched the traditional cooking process of some Huaiyang dishes, like Qin'gong meatball (a former tribute of emperors in Qing dynasty), Casa snack, Tangbao (steamed dumpling filled with minced meat and gravy), and cooking the cattail.
Huai'an city is home to rich traditional cuisines, one of the criterions in applying for the UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy, said Hartman, adding that the city has seen close integration among the cuisine, culture and history.
While applying for UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy, Huai'an will promote the Huaiyang Cuisine, one of the major regional cuisines of China, and bring more taste sensations across the world.
