Hongze Lake Ecological Economic Zone under Massive Transformation

In recent years, Hongze District in Huai'an City has fully taken its own ecological advantages and resources to plan and develop the Hongze Lake Ecological Economic Zone in exploring a pragmatic path of green growth.
The district has made great efforts in developing green industry and promoting transformation of traditional industries, gradually building modern industries dominated by machinery and electronics, modern textiles and food processing. In 2017, the district had 18 new high-tech enterprises at the national level approved, and the output value of high-tech industries reached 16.1 billion yuan (2.4 billion US dollars). At the same time, the district maintains rigorous environmental protection measures, shutting down a total of over 20 enterprises of high energy consumption, heavy pollution and low quality.
The district has developed the ecological agriculture amid efforts to boost quality and efficiency. Hongze is the first batch of counties recognized for pollution-free farm produce in the province. In recent years, it has developed regional public brands such as "Hongze Rice" and "Hongze Lake Crab". The organic, green and pollution-free rice accounted for over 80 percent of the total cultivation area in the district.
Hongze also has promoted 'all-for-one tourism', the integrated development of tourism-centered sectors, and increased the lakeside district's charms. In the past two years, Hongze has invested nearly 20 billion yuan (2.9 billion US dollars) to for more than 150 cultural tourism projects, creating a number of core scenic spots, characteristic towns and beautiful villages. In 2017, it received a total of 3.3 million domestic and foreign tourists, achieving a comprehensive revenue of 3.5 billion yuan (510 million US dollars).
