Rapid Progress Made in Key Transportation Projects of Huai'an

Rapid progress has been made in building key transportation projects in Huai'an City since the beginning of this year, with 5.1 billion yuan (747 million US dollars) being invested in transportation infrastructure construction during the first six months.
Huai'an has speeded up the construction of two high-speed railways, namely Lianyungang-Huai'an-Yangzhou-Zhenjiang and Xuzhou-Suqian-Huai'an-Yancheng railways, leading other cities along the routes, and basically completed the main engineering tasks. It is expected that the track laying will start in August.
Other progresses included the railway passengers hub that has passed the review, the construction documents design basically completed, and the elevated bridge under construction. Construction of the high-speed railway station will commence in August.
The Nanjing-Huai'an Railway plan has been incorporated in the Minutes on Promoting Railway Construction in Jiangsu Province, an agreement reached between the state-owned railway operator China Railway and the province, and the feasibility study almost came to an end. The preliminary research plan for connecting the planned railway with the Hefei-Qingdao Railway has also been completed.
For urban traffic construction, more than 70 percent of the lower structure of the elevated, inner ring road have been completed, 30 percent of the cast-in-place beam finished. At the same time, construction of the side road is underway.
The steel structure of the main tower of the Huaihai Road Bridge over the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was completed and 80 percent of the welding and installation was finished too. The construction of the lower structure of the bridge is also underway.
In terms of airport and waterway projects, Huai'an Lianshui Airport concluded the main work of the second phase expansion and put into use the new runway.
Jinhu General Airport, which received approval from the Eastern Regional Bureau of the Civil Aviation Administration of China on April 19, is now preparing for an application report and will try to start construction by the end of the year.
