In 2020, Huai'an coordinated the prevention and control of epidemics with its economic and social development, and actively promoted its resumption of work and production, business and market. At the same time, the city ensured the stability in employment, financial operations, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and expectations, as well as the security in job, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains and the normal function of primary-level governments. Therefore, a stable society was greatly maintained, people's livelihood and employment was well protected, and its economic growth was better than expected.

The annual gross regional product was RMB 402.537 billion, an increase of 3.2% over the previous year at comparable prices, of which, the added value of primary, secondary and tertiary industries grew by 1.8%, 3.5% and 3.2% respectively. GDP per capita was expected to reach 11,500 USD, and the ratio for three industries was adjusted and optimized to 10.2:40.5:49.3.
