After thousands of runs, the first self-driving tram in China completed the trial operation in the test section of the main line in Huai'an on December 28. The project successfully passed the examination by experts on December 29.

The trial operation tested the functions of signal recognition, drawing into stops, door opening and closing, whistling at intersections, obstacle detection, braking, and so on, filling the blank in the research of self-driving of trams in China.

The operation environment along the tram line is representative for the research project of tram self-driving, which was approved in April 2019. The research team since then has studied the self-driving technology and the operation requirements, developed key equipment and carried out trial operations in the test section of tram line 1.
