The opening ceremony of the 9th sports meeting and fast walking was held on the morning of October 25. Cai Lixin, Secretary of the municipal Party committee, announced the opening of the ceremony, and Mayor Chen Zhichang delivered a speech for it.

The opening ceremony was followed by the start of fast walking, which is 4.5 km long. The municipal leaders of Cai Lixin, Chen Zhichang, etc., took the lead. Then a total of 120 teams set out from the south gate of the sports center and walked along Meigao Road, Wankang Road, Fucheng Road, Tongfu Road, and finally to the west gate of the sports center. In addition, a variety of public fitness exhibition activities were held together with the fast walking such as waist drum, square dance, fitness Qigong, Kungfu fan and fishing drum dance, attracting more than 2000 participants.

The sports meeting of Huai'an is held every four years, which is a critical window and stage to carry forward sports culture, publicize national fitness and promote the construction of "A Healthy Huai'an". This year's games, attracting more than 10000 participants, consist of six groups such as student group, government official group, and staff group, and twenty-six events. Due to the influence of COVID-19, the participants could also take part in the meeting online this year.
