Hongze Lake Area under the Jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province to Be Completely Banned from Capture

In order to strictly follow the decision-making of the Party Central Committee, the State Council, the Provincial Party Committee and Government on strengthening the construction of ecological civilization and effectively protect the bio-resources of lakes, on September 7, 2020, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Jiangsu Province issued the Announcement on the Fishing Right Withdrawal of Fishery Producers in the Hongze Lake Areas under the Jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province. In accordance with other documents such as Action Outline of China Water Resources Conservation, Notice of Provincial Government on Comprehensively Promoting the Implementation Plan of Banning and Withdrawing Capture in the Yangtze River Basin, Law of the People's Republic of China on Administrative Permission, Fisheries Law of the People's Republic of China, and Fishery Management Regulations of Jiangsu Province, it decides to take back the fishing rights of fishery producers in Hongze Lake under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province on October 10, 2020, withdraw the fishing licenses, and cancel the relevant certificates.

According to the Announcement, all fishery producers operating in Hongze Lake under Jiangsu jurisdiction shall stop fishing from October 10, 2020. According to statistics, 3,668 fishing vessels are involved. The specific scope of the withdrawal includes Chengzi Lake, Shengshan Lake, the marsh regions, bay areas and wetlands connected with Hongze Lake, and the banks towards the outside from the estuary within 1 km.

After the withdrawal of the fishing licenses, Detachment of Fishery Administration of Hongze Lake will perform its duties according to law, cooperate with the public security and market supervision departments of Huai'an and Suqian, strengthen regional linkage, and promote the fishing prohibition and withdrawal in Hongze lake in a smooth way. While widely publicizing the related policies, it will carry out the 24-hour law enforcement inspection in the water area of Hongze Lake, especially in the protection area of aquatic germplasm resources, no fishing area, no water and grass mining area, shoreline of lake area and fishing port. Supervisions on manufacturers, agricultural markets (fairs), wholesale markets, supermarkets and catering services of aquatic products will be also enhanced, so as to prohibit illegal fishing catches from entering the market for sale.
