On July 2, Procuratorial Union of Ecological Protection was established in Guyan of Hongze Lake. Relevant responsible persons from Jiangsu Provincial People's Procuratorate and procurators from the lake area such as Hongze, Huaiyin, Xuyi, Sihong, Siyang and Sucheng in Huai'an or Suqian attended the meeting and jointly signed the paperwork of Procuratorial Linkage and Cooperation Mechanism of Ecological Environment and Resources Protection in Hongze Lake (hereinafter referred to as the Mechanism).

According to the Mechanism, the founding purpose of the Union is to protect the ecological environment as well as the historical and cultural heritage along the lake area. Members of the Union will greatly unite their efforts and advance their abilities, so as to better solve the problems existing in the protection of Hongze Lake cultural heritage, the management of its water system and the restoration of its ecological fishery. Also, the current situation of the Lake's ecological environment and resources protection will be further improved, and its inheritance, protection, development and utilization will be carried out simultaneously. The Mechanism stipulates that all member units should share case information, smooth case jurisdiction, regularly carry out exchange and cooperation, and form the linkage of cross regional cases. Besides, they should unify the same kind of cases, standardize their judgments and jointly study and solve the main problems in the protection of ecological environment, fishery resources, wetlands, cultural relics, etc. Crimes of destroying the ecological resources in the lake area must be cracked down, such as illegal sand mining and fishing. An early warning mechanism for Hongze Lake risk assessment shall be established and improved. Members should try their best to win the attention and support from all walks of life and strive to promote the special legislation for the protection of Hongze Lake.
