Liu Yuanxun, 46, is a native of Hongze of Huai'an city. He contracted a water area of 200 mu (13.3 hectares) in the Hongze Lake since 2008 for a crab farm, boosting his income year by year and earning 800,000 yuan in 2018.

Liu's family of four invested 270,000 yuan for the farm 11 years ago. Through his own exploration and guidance from local experts, Liu has become very confident in raising crabs.

In the past, mitten crabs were only favored by people in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Thanks to the e-commerce, Liu now sells the crabs to various places, allowing more people in the country to eat the freshwater delicacy. He said he feels fortunate to become a crab farmer, a decision that has enabled his family to live a happy life. Liu also said he will make more efforts to raise crab and help more people to enjoy the specialty of the Hongze Lake.
