Huaiyang Cuisine at UNESCO - a Feast for Eyes and Taste Buds

The National Commission of China for UNESCO and Huai'an People's Government jointly held at the Huaiyang Cuisine Night at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France on June 3.

The event included three parts: show of cooking, food display, and food sampling. Eight chefs famous for cooking Huaiyang Cuisine, one of the Four Great Traditions in Chinese cuisine, showcased their culinary skills on the spot, creating a feast for eyes and taste buds for visitors.

Zhang Guoliang, executive deputy mayor of Huai'an City, said that Huai'an is an important birthplace and development place of Huaiyang Cuisine. The city has always emphasized on the inheritance and development of the cuisine. Huai’an hopes to actively participate in UNESCO activities, share the experience of preserving and developing traditional culture, and promote cultural diversity and exchanges among different civilizations in the world, according to Zhang.

On June 4, a series of activities were also held to introduce Huaiyang Cuisine to overseas Chinese in Paris, where chefs from Huai’an demonstrated unique cooking techniques.
