Leading governmental officials from cities and counties in Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, and Hubei gathered in Huai'an City on April 29 to discuss the development plan during the inter-provincial joint conference of the Huaihe River Green Economic Belt.

At the meeting, the five provinces reviewed and approved the "Overall Implementation for Inter-provincial Cooperation in the Huaihe River Green Economic Belt Planning" and the "Inter-provincial Joint Conference System of the Huaihe River Green Economic Belt" and also signed the "Inter-provincial Cooperation Framework for Integrated Promotion of the Huaihe River Green Economic Belt".

The agreement listed six priorities in cooperation – to create a green ecological corridor, to improve the infrastructure network, to promote industrial transformation, to promote integrated urban and rural development, to promote the joint development and sharing of public services, and to build a new all-round opening up.

In October last year, the State Council approved a plan to promote the construction of the Huaihe River Green Economic Belt in a bid to foster regional economic and ecological development in 25 cities and four counties in five provinces, making its inclusion into a national development strategy. Jiangsu has seven cities in the strategy - Huai'an, Yancheng, Suqian, Xuzhou, Lianyungang, Yangzhou, and Taizhou.
