At the invitation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Huai'an City sent a delegation to participate in cultural activities in Pyongyang to celebrate the Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year, from February 17 to 23.

In an activity at the Chinese Embassy on February 19, Huai'an's chefs made signature Huaiyang delicacies, including crab soup dumplings, Chasan pastry and Pingqiao Tofu, while showing their exquisite cooking techniques. Then a Huaiyang food show and tasting activity was held at a temple fair on February 21.

During the stay in DPRK, Gao Daiming, director of the Huaiyang Cuisine Culture Research Association, was invited to give a theme lecture on Huaiyang Cuisine, one of China's four major cooking styles. Using food as a medium, Huai'an held extensive exchanges with all sides in DPRK as well as foreign envoys in the country, which will boost the city's international cooperation.
