In recent years, Huai'an City has achieved remarkable results in conserving traditional villages and in the integrated development of rural agriculture, culture, and tourism. The CCTV News Channel even reported on Guishan Village in Laozishan Town, Hongze District, highlighting its Spring Festival cultural tourism event themed "A Millennium of Fishing Lights, Stone Houses Usher in the New Year."
First, collaborative efforts have been made to advance the implementation of coordinated projects. The Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Department, in collaboration with Hongze District, has designated the protection and utilization of Guishan Village as a key demonstration project for traditional Chinese villages. They have jointly developed a three-stage task list—"relic restoration–stone house revitalization–industry incubation"—with clear timelines and a defined division of responsibilities, thus establishing an efficient coordination mechanism across various departments and administrative levels.
Second, planning serves as the foundation to strengthen basic support. In line with relevant policies on traditional village conservation, systematic renovation of 126 traditional stone houses has been completed. At the same time, infrastructure upgrades, including the fire protection network, rainwater and sewage separation, and bluestone walkways, were carried out. New public spaces, such as folk performance squares and cultural tourism experience areas, were also developed, ensuring integrated improvements in safety, livability, and tourism.
Third, business innovation promotes integrated development. Huai'an has innovated the "traditional village protection + cultural tourism integration" model, combining the transformation of the stone houses in Guishan Village with cultural display and tourism experience functions, and creating new formats such as the Stone House Ruins Exhibition Hall. By doing so, it not only preserves the cultural features of the ancient village but also expands the channels for villagers to increase their income, achieving a win-win situation between cultural inheritance and people's wealth. By promoting the shift from static protection to dynamic inheritance, the ancient village can retain its nostalgia, attract tourists, and enrich the people.
