Huai'an City is advancing its pace to develop a modern comprehensive transportation network featuring "road, rail, water, and air."
Regarding highway construction, in response to the problem of freight trunk lines passing through the city, Huai'an has simultaneously promoted projects such as the Huai'an section of Provincial Highway 264 and the outer bypass of National Highway 205, thereby improving the quality of urban traffic by alleviating traffic congestion. The main construction of the 39.59-kilometer expansion project for the Huai'an section of the Changchun–Shenzhen Expressway is expected to be completed within this year.
In the railway construction, the Huai'an section of the Nanjing-Huai'an Intercity Railway is scheduled to be completed and operational by December 30, 2026. Upon completion, Huai'an and Nanjing will achieve a one-hour direct transit connection. The preliminary work on the Xinyi-Huai'an Railway, Yanhuai Railway (Nanyang–Zhumadian–Fuyang–Huainan–Bengbu–Huai'an), and Huai'an-Taizhou-Changzhou Railway is progressing rapidly, further solidifying the "米"-shaped high-speed rail network of this city.
In water transport, 13 port and channel water transport projects are simultaneously under construction, marking a historic peak. Additionally, a cross-departmental and cross-regional collaborative "Huaishui Runqi" Party-building alliance has been established to create a "dual-engine" for optimizing the water transport operational environment, combining hardware advancements with software enhancements.
Regarding aviation, the third-phase expansion project of Huai'an Lianshui International Airport is proceeding systematically. The international cargo area has been completed and is now operational. Plans include constructing a new 60,000-square-meter terminal building, along with passenger overnight accommodation and other associated facilities. Upon completion, the airport will have an annual capacity to handle 7.5 million passengers.
