time:2025-07-07

On July 1, the first accessible bus line in Huai'an City, "Bus No. 16—Line of Happiness and Care," officially commenced operation. It offers more convenient travel services for individuals with disabilities and signifies new advancements in developing urban public transportation accessibility.

Regarding physical facilities, the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation and the municipal transportation company have meticulously prepared and selected 30 buses designed and modified for accessibility to operate on the 16-line route. Externally, the buses are adorned with prominent "Special Line of Accessibility" signs. Internally, they feature accessibility aids such as priority seats, automatic retractable entry pedals, and secure wheelchair retention devices. Additionally, an intelligent voice prompt system announces departure, arrival, and making turns, ensuring comprehensive safety and convenience for passengers with disabilities.

The services are equally impressive, with a lot of highlights. The municipal transportation company has conducted specialized training sessions on sign language and supportive services for the drivers and staff, ensuring their proficiency in fundamental sign language communication and skills necessary for assisting passengers using wheelchairs. Meanwhile, eight qualified stations along the 16-line route have been renovated and upgraded, featuring seats for seniors and individuals with disabilities and newly constructed barrier-free ramps. Additionally, the electronic platforms are equipped with voice announcements for vehicle arrivals and stops, creating a seamless barrier-free travel service system.

The inauguration of the "Bus No. 16—Line of Happiness and Care" is just a beginning. Next, efforts in Huai'an will focus on advancing a barrier-free environment through various measures and accelerating the enhancement of associated policies for this initiative. At the same time, the intensity of home renovations for families of individuals with difficulties and severe disabilities will be increased, continuously improving travel services for persons with disabilities, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and caring urban environment.
