At 10:18 am on June 27, a container was successfully hoisted aboard a vessel, marking the commencement of hoisting operations at the wharf for hazardous chemicals in Huai'an Port. This wharf, as the only public wharf of its kind in Huai'an and even surrounding areas, injects new vitality into the development of the regional chemical industry.
The wharf, with a total investment of approximately RMB 913 million, spans 625 mu (41.67 hectares) and features 25 berths along a 2,065-meter-long shoreline. It is designed with an annual throughput capacity of 7.45 million tons and a processing ability of 8.81 million tons. Through the utility tunnel system of the Huai'an Industrial Park, the wharf is connected to various chemical companies, facilitating the loading and unloading of six types of hazardous chemicals, including caustic soda liquid, diesel, and methanol, as well as brine and animal and plant oils. In addition, multi-purpose berths are available at the wharf to facilitate the loading and unloading of hazardous goods in containerized or break-bulk cargo forms. As a supporting project for the wharf, the tank area construction project is carrying out preliminary work. It is planned to build storage tanks and loading and unloading facilities for 12 types of hazardous chemicals, including gasoline, toluene, and sulfuric acid, along with two Class A warehouses.
Once operational, the wharf will greatly improve the logistics and transportation conditions for chemical companies in Huai'an and surrounding areas, significantly reduce their transportation costs, and enhance their market competitiveness. It will provide strong support for the development of chemical companies in the Huai'an Industrial Park and surrounding areas. Furthermore, the wharf is poised to become a key magnet in Huai'an for attracting chemical industry projects, fostering a virtuous cycle of mutual reinforcement between industrial development and wharf construction.
