During the first five months of this year, Huai'an City's foreign trade developed steadily, achieving a total import and export value of RMB 22.66 billion, a 9.7% increase year-on-year. The city's exports reached RMB 18.47 billion, growing by 15%.
Exports of electromechanical and labor-intensive products saw rapid expansion, while imports of essential raw materials and equipment maintained steady growth. The electromechanical industry is a traditional advantageous industry in Huai'an City. In the first five months of this year, its exports reached RMB 11.2 billion, up 15.3%, accounting for 60.6% of total exports, further consolidating its market share. Notably, rubber tire exports amounted to RMB 1.21 billion, marking an increase of 8.6%, and a booming season for consumer electronics production drove printed circuit exports to RMB 800 million, an increase of 86.6%. The exports of labor-intensive products amounted to RMB 3.34 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 25.3%, with the exports of textile and apparel, plastic products, and furniture and furniture parts rising by 27.6%, 24.9%, and 17.5%, respectively. Additionally, the exports of basic organic chemicals totaled RMB 700 million, up 7.3%. On the import side, integrated circuits and other electronic components increased by 42.7% to RMB 1.17 billion. Agricultural imports, including cotton, milk powder, and citrus oil, grew by 56.3% to RMB 500 million, while machine tool imports, driven by new production line projects, climbed 19.9% to RMB 240 million.
The ASEAN market continues to be a strong focus, while trade with Belt and Road partner countries has also shown robust growth. In the first five months, Huai'an City's trade with ASEAN reached RMB 4.25 billion—a 12.8% increase—accounting for 18.8% of the city's foreign trade. Exports to ASEAN surged by 58.9% to RMB 3.53 billion, covering major sectors such as electromechanical products, chemicals, and textiles,reflecting the deepened industrial cooperation between Huai'an City and ASEAN along the industry chain. During the same period, Huai'an City's trade with 155 Belt and Road partner countries totaled RMB 10.51 billion—up 3.5%—accounting for 46.4% of the overall foreign trade, underscoring proactive efforts in emerging markets. Additionally, exports to the United States reached RMB 1.9 billion, representing a 2.5% increase.
