In recent years, Huai'an City has prioritized waste classification as both a "key detail" in urban refined management and an important "livelihood issue" to enhance the living environment. The city has intensified efforts in public awareness and guidance on waste classification, coordinated the development of a waste classification system, made significant progress in establishing a household waste classification framework, and fostered a culture of classified waste management. The city's residential communities have effectively achieved comprehensive coverage of waste classification, with a 100% harmless treatment rate for domestic waste and a 35.5% recycling rate.

On March 1 of this year, the Huai'an City Domestic Waste Classification Management Measures officially came into effect. The measures primarily cover the scope of application, classification standards, departmental responsibilities, management requirements, as well as source reduction, resource utilization, supervision, enforcement, and legal responsibilities. This provides an institutional framework to support and ensure the implementation of the city's waste classification efforts.

Huai'an City continues to enhance the development of facilities and equipment for waste classification, collection, and disposal. Currently, Huai'an City has established three recyclable sorting centers, two food waste treatment facilities capable of processing an average of 315 tons of food waste per day, and four domestic waste incineration power plants, which handle an average of 3,450 tons of domestic waste daily. These disposal facilities are sufficient to meet the city's classified waste disposal requirements.

Huai'an City has diversified its methods of promoting waste classification, continually fostering the development of civilized habits in waste classification. Over the past three years, Huai'an City has conducted over 3,000 diverse publicity activities, distributed more than 100,000 copies of educational materials, produced over 200 promotional videos, and featured more than 500 experiences and best practices across various media platforms. This multifaceted approach has significantly enhanced public awareness and engagement in waste classification, seamlessly integrating the concept into citizens' daily lives.
