Huai'an City Introduces 75 Shared Green Spaces
time:2025-04-30

Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced the third batch of publicly accessible urban green space lists in the province. A total of 282 new green spaces, covering more than 500 hectares, have been opened to the public. Among these are 54 urban green spaces in Huai'an City, including the ancient Yellow River Scenic Area. Huai'an City has so far opened 75 shared parks and green spaces, covering a total area of over 1.5 million square meters.

In recent years, Huai'an City has been actively promoting the accessibility and shared use of parks and green spaces. At the management and service level, taking into account local conditions, the city has developed the Implementation Plan for the Pilot Opening and Sharing of Urban Parks and Green Spaces in Huai'an City and the Guidelines for the Maintenance and Management of Open and Shared Lawns under the Rotational System in Huai'an City. These initiatives aim to enhance and expand public services, including the addition and improvement of public restrooms, fitness equipment, children's playground facilities, camping areas, safety monitoring systems, and other service amenities. Its goal is to provide convenient services and ensure effective emergency response for public safety.

In terms of maintenance mechanisms, innovative approaches have been explored, establishing a rotational maintenance system for shared park lawns. This system delineates open and closed maintenance periods, implementing a cross-rotation approach that balances visitor needs with lawn growth. Additionally, the city is expanding under-canopy spaces by adding facilities for leisure, fitness, reading, and wellness, as well as planting rapeseed flowers, February orchids, and cosmos to create appealing and functional under-canopy landscapes.

To highlight regional characteristics, Huai'an leverages its water culture advantage from the "Four Rivers Running Through the City", focusing on opening parks along the Grand Canal, Li Canal, and the ancient Yellow River. Pathways, boardwalks, and corridors connect the main urban areas along the ancient Yellow River, linking multiple parks such as the Ecological Park, Ancient Huaihe River National Wetland Park, and Cherry Blossom Park.

In terms of activity engagement, a series of special events have been held, including the Grand Canal Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition, Huaiyang Food Culture Week, Lawn Music Festival, Tulip Exhibition, Peach and Pear Blossom Viewing Festival, Rose Culture Week and Matchmaking Event, Outdoor Movie Nights, Gateball Competitions, a series of Walking Events, and Sunshine Reading Clubs, all aimed at enhancing the enjoyment and experience of park visitors.
