The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the final list of winners for the 2024 National Advanced Manufacturing Industry Cluster Competition on November 22. The list highlights a total of 35 advanced manufacturing industry clusters across the country. Notably, one of these is the Yancheng-Changzhou-Suqian-Huai’an photovoltaic cluster, which includes Huai'an.
Capitalizing on national initiatives for green and low-carbon circular energy development, Huai’an has strategically positioned itself by attracting leading industry players with investments surpassing 10 billion yuan, such as Trina Solar, Jietai New Energy, NGC, Xingfu Technology, and Canadian Solar. To ensure effective project execution and speed up construction, Huai'an has introduced a “five-stage” lifecycle management service mechanism, helping projects reach target output and efficiency at an accelerated pace. Trina Solar's 50GW monocrystalline silicon project in Huai'an showcased an impressive turnaround, moving from contract signing to groundbreaking in just 27 days, thus setting a new benchmark for “Huai'an speed.” Similarly, Jietai’s project in Huai'an set a record by reaching its first product output in only 151 days from the start of construction, marking the fastest timeline among Jietai Group's investments across different locations.
The aggregation of technically advanced and resilient industry leaders in Huai'an has attracted numerous supporting enterprises, both upstream and downstream. This has resulted in the formation of a robust new energy industrial cluster encompassing photovoltaic technology, wind power, and innovative energy storage solutions. The photovoltaic sector in particular has achieved comprehensive coverage of critical areas, including wafers, batteries, components, and accessories.
From its inception to an ever-expanding sector, the development of the new energy industry cluster in Huai'an has been remarkable. In 2023, the sector recorded invoiced sales of 33.58 billion yuan, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 70.8%. Predictions for this year suggest that the invoiced sales may surpass 40 billion yuan, representing a 20% increase, solidifying its status as one of Huai'an's leading industrial sectors.
