Huai'an City Takes Multiple Measures to "Escort" Migratory Birds Northward
time:2024-04-15

As a national first-class protected animal vulture rescued by Huaian City successfully migrated northward, the migration of migrant birds in White Horse Lake gradually entered its peak period. In order to ensure the successful migration of migratory birds, Huai'an has made comprehensive arrangements, increased investment in science and technology, improved ecological protection measures, and "escorted" the migration of migratory birds.

White Horse Lake is an important overwintering habitat on the flyway from East Asia to Australia. In every golden autumn, more than 20,000 rare migratory birds from Northeast China, eastern Mongolia and the Far East of Russia fly to White Horse Lake for winter, with ponds scattered all over the place, fishes, shrimp, conches and clams, as well as aquatic plants and wild flowers.

After the migratory birds began to migrate northward in warm spring, White Horse Lake Office of Huai'an City carried out a larger-scale wildlife patrol work and set up a patrol team composed of local towns, villages and O&M units. The team is equipped with intelligent patrol equipment to conduct regular patrol at fixed points. Huai'an has accelerated the construction of the wildlife monitoring system upgrading projects, including tower monitoring points and UAV automatic patrol platforms. Together with the established monitoring centers and major video observation points, the projects will further strengthen the scientific monitoring capability of White Horse Lake as an important international wetland. Huai'an has vigorously carried out theme publicity activities such as World Wetlands Day, World Wildlife Day and Bird-Loving Week to continuously enhance public awareness of protecting birds, maintain biodiversity and spread the concept of ecological civilization.
