In recent years, Huai'an has thoroughly implemented the decision-making and deployment of the action to enhance grain production capacity by 50 billion kilograms, focusing on both cultivated land management and scientific fertilizer use. Recently, the acid soil treatment in Xuyi County and scientific fertilization in Huaiyin District were successfully selected as 100 excellent cases of "I help farmers build fertile farmland" by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The first is to promote the treatment of acidified cultivated land. Huai'an has continuously advanced the treatment of acidified cultivated land in Xuyi County, adjusted measures to local conditions, implemented classified policies for comprehensive rice and shrimp planting and breeding fields, dry farming areas, and paddy fields, and adopted appropriate restoration models. By the end of 2023, a total of 80,622.9 mu of acidified land had been reclaimed over the past three years, benefiting 554 farmers.

The second is to utilize fertilizers scientifically to protect soil fertility. Huai'an has further propelled soil testing and formulated fertilization and boosted the application of new fertilizers such as organic fertilizers and slow-release fertilizers, continuously consolidating the achievements of reducing chemical fertilizer consumption and increasing efficiency. From January to March this year, the city applied 64,000 tons of fertilizers during spring farming preparations, with a year-on-year decrease of 0.5% in the fertilization amount and a steady increase in the fertilizer utilization rate.

The third is to establish a model of excellence and leadership. Huai'an has accelerated the construction of a demonstration area for fertilizer reduction and efficiency enhancement and facilitated the transformation of scientific research achievements from the field fertilizer effect test, fertilizer utilization rate test, organic fertilizer test, as well as new machinery, product, and technology test. By the end of this March, 14 demonstration areas for fertilizer reduction and efficiency enhancement have been built in the city, with a demonstration area of 42,000 mu.
