Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism (Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Heritage Bureau) announced the first batch of provincial archaeological site parks and approved projects. Two sites from Huai'an were included in this selection, namely the Dayun Mountain Han Dynasty Tomb Cluster and the Ancient Sizhou City Site.

Located on Dayun Mountain, Yunshan Village, Maba Town, Xuyi County, the Han Dynasty Tomb Cluster serves as the cemetery site for Liu Fei, one of Emperor Jing of the Han Dynasty's five sons, the half-brother of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, and the inaugural "King of Jiangdu" during the Western Han Dynasty, and his concubines. The site excavation commenced in 2009 and concluded in 2012. In 2011, the archaeological findings at this site were recognized as one of China's top ten new archaeological discoveries. The discovery of the Dayun Mountain Han Dynasty Tomb Cluster holds immense academic significance for advancing our knowledge of the burial system of feudal princes in the Han Dynasty, as well as for further clarifying the territorial extent of the Jiangdu Kingdom.

The Ancient Sizhou City Site is located in Huaihe Town, western suburbs of Xuyi County. Resting beneath the Huaihe River for over 300 years, the ancient Sizhou City has been confirmed by experts to be relatively well-preserved. It stands as a rare world heritage site, possessing significant archaeological importance and offering substantial potential for tourism development. As a key hub along the Grand Canal, the ancient Sizhou City holds tremendous significance for the construction of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt. The accelerated development of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt has positioned the Ancient Sizhou City Site as one of the 22 core exhibition parks within the Jiangsu Grand Canal National Culture Park.
