Housing Security Gradually Gaining Favor with Huai'an Younger Generation
time:2021-04-09

In the past, the concept of housing security was often misunderstood and stereotyped as a place for the poor only. Its application was like a "patent" for the disadvantaged, leading to the loss of one's status and face. However, with economic and social development, the housing security in Huai'an has been continuously improved. It has changed from a system in single forms such as low-cost housing only, to a system in which three main measures are jointly adopted, namely the affordable rent and subsidy of public rental housing as well as the purchase of common property rights. The coverage of security has been expanded as well, from urban families with housing difficulties to migrant workers, newly employed people and local farmers. Therefore, this concept is no longer what it used to be, but gradually gaining popularity among the younger generation.

In 2020, 18 Huai'an city-level households with shared property rights were guaranteed, of which 16 belong to the newly employed, accounting for 88.9% of the total. This has achieved an increase of 8 households over the previous year, with the average household receiving nearly RMB 240,000 in purchasing funds. Since 2021, the proportion of the newly employed supported with rental subsidy has added as well, and in March alone, the number increased to 16 households, a rise of 9 or 112.5% compared to the previous month, with each person receiving a rental subsidy of RMB 288 per month.
