Huai’an Red Cross was established in 1911. Since 1983, it has adopted the form of holding of symposia and entertainment performance, publishing the briefing, organizing the Red Cross medical personnel for volunteer diagnosis, spreading the information materials and providing the papers to radio station, newspaper and TV station, etc to publicize the historical origin of the Red Cross, the Law of Red Cross, its purpose, character, task, volunteering blood donation and the popular knowledge of health, therefore to spread the reputation of Red Cross courses and carry forward the Red Cross spirit.

Since 1985, the municipal Red Cross has actively been engaged in collecting the donation. It has donated over 140,000 Yuan for the African countries for the children’s health care courses. In 1991, our city suffered from the flood disaster rarely seen in history and over 30,000 members of Red Cross took part in the disaster aid and organized 601 Red Cross medical teams, saved and treated over 300,000 victims of the calamity and displaced over 120,000 of them to safe place. What’s more, they also give about 1 million money or things to the victims, in addition to the 22 groups of disaster relief materials from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan which amounted to 12 million Yuan; they are all delivered to the victims in time. At the same time, the Red Cross has established the calamity relief warehouse of over 1000 Sq meters in the Development District.
