Huai'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone, formerly known as Huaiyin Economic and Technological Development Zone, was constructed in May 2001. In April 2006, it was approved by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province as a provincial development zone. In November 2012, it was renamed Jiangsu Huai'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone. On February 13, 2017, it was officially approved to be upgraded to a national high-tech industrial development zone. After 18 years of rapid development, the total planned area of Huai'an High-tech Industrial Development Zone has reached 72 square kilometers. The area that meets the "10 standards" has reached 33.4 square kilometers. More than 1,200 enterprises have settled in, including 66 national high-tech enterprises and more than 60 foreign-funded enterprises.
