Huai'an is in the center of Subei (Area to the North of Jiangsu), with Yancheng to the east, Yangzhou to the south, Anhui province to the west and the cities of Lianyungang, Xuzhou, and Suqian to the north. This area is in East Longitude 118°12'~119°36' and North latitude 32°43'~34°06'.

It's apparent that Huai'an enjoys traffic advantage since this city is an interconnection of both land and water traffic. During Ming Dynasty, this place enjoyed reputation of "boats from the south and horses from the north", "Interconnection of nine provinces and common key positions of 7 provinces". Today's Huai'an is still an interconnection of roads, railroads, waterway that stretch out in all directions including roads of Beijing-Shanghai, Nanjing-Suqian-Xuzhou, Suqian-Huai'an, Huai'an-Yancheng and road Xinxi(Jiangsu province)-Changxing (Zhejiang province ) that runs through the city.The Beijing -Hangzhou Great Canal, NS irrigation aqueducts etc. They join one another in Huai'an, so the city becomes a state famous traffic center in Jiangsu and the country.
