Guan Tianpei (1781-1841), styled Zhongyin, assumed name Zipu, hold the post of the Commander of Guangdong Navy during the period of Emperor Daoguang (1834) in Qing Dynasty. He improved and strengthened coastal defense seriously and trained navy provided a powerful backing for Lin Zexu who followed through on and destruct opium. In 1839 (the 19th year of the period of Emperor Daoguang), the Qing government assigned Lin Zexu to Guangdong to suppress opium, Guan Tianpei put his shoulder to capture opium.
