Huai’an District is located in the southeast of Huai’an City and an important transportation hub of Northern Jiangsu. Beijing-Shanghai, Nanjing-Lianyungang and Xuzhou-Suqian-Huai’an-Yancheng three highways intersect in the district and Xinchang Railway, Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and General Irrigation Canal of Northern Jiangsu pass through it. It takes only 20 minutes from Huai’an Airport to Huai’an District. It covers an area of 1,452 square kilometers, of which water covers almost 180 square kilometers. The total population was 1.2 million of which 974,200 were permanent residents. Huai’an District has a long history and is a famous national historic and cultural county. Back to the Neolithic Age, people here had created the splendid culture of Qingliangang. In Huai’an District, there are almost 70 cultural and historical sites listed under the state, the province and the city protection and many historic and cultural attractions, including Former Residence of Premier Zhou Enlai, Memorial Hall of Zhou Enlai, China Water Transport Museum (Ruins of the Water Transport Governor's Office) and Huai’an Yamen (the government office in history). Huai’an District has become a charming tourist city in Eastern China.
